This closed cell material never expands or contracts, never rots and is
waterproof. For those reasons, a high quality paint correctly applied can last up
to 50 years! HDU is comparable in price to a redwood sign in 2" thickness, but it
carves, sculpts and routes better than redwood. Casey signs has been using
HDU for over 10 years and has never had any problems. Our customers have
been thrilled with its performance and lack of maintenance. Gold leaf loves it!
High Density Urethane (HDU)
Many factors are weighed to decide the proper  material used in your sign. We
stock several substrates that have proven to give the best "longevity for the
buck". After asking you a list of questions about your sign needs, we can
recommend the material most suitable for your purpose.
Foam Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
A plastic sheet material that accepts pressure sensitive vinyl or paint, PVC comes
in several colors and thicknesses up to 1". As a substitute for wood, it offers a
better surface at a smaller price. At Casey Signs, we often use it as a substrate
for our metal faced or epoxy glass domed letters. Digital prints look good on
PVC's ultra smooth surface.
Medium Density Overlay (MDO)
This marine grade plywood has been a standard in the sign industry for 30
years. The plywood layers are laminated with a marine grade glue and it comes
in 1/2" and 3/4" thicknesses. We keep a stock of MDO on hand and it has its
place, but we use it strategically as it has generally been replaced by PVC,
Alumalite and DiBond.
These are all lightweight layered materials. Gatorfoam has plastic veneer faces
laminated onto a dense foam for interior mountings up to 1.5" thick. Alumalite is
colored aluminum sheet laminated to a corrugated plastic core and is 1/4" thick.
Dibond is aluminum bonded to a solid plastic core. Both Alumalite and DiBond are
ideal for exterior mounting.

Gold Leaf
Literally 23 karats, these thin sheets of near pure gold have been used for
ornamentation for centuries. Often seen on the domes of government buildings,
the inert metal resists weathering for many many years. It reflects the available
light and makes the letters "shine", Casey Signs has been through hundreds of
sheets.
Paints -OneShot & Aquacote
Casey Signs has been lettering with OneShot enamel paints for 30 years as its
the best in the industry. Aquacote is a new water based alternative lettering
paint that has recently been introduced. Initial results are good and we are
impressed with the purposed longevity these new paints claim.
